Please help us find Craig
By Rachel Lamb
CRAIG: Missing for a week.
Fears are growing over the safety of a Rhu teenager who has been missing for over a week.
Craig Birss was last seen leaving a friend’s house in the village in the early hours of last Thursday.
His distraught family are appealing for information to help trace the 18-year-old who has not been in contact with anyone since his disappearance on May 8.
His mum Bridie said: “We just want him home as soon as possible. I can’t describe how it feels. It’s just a constant worry. As every day passes you start imagining worse and worse things all the time. We are just hoping for any kind of information, anything that might lead to us find out where he is. It’s totally out of character for Craig to go missing.
“He is the type of boy who never switches his phone off. He’d always tell you where he was and when he would be coming home. I realised something was wrong when his mobile kept going to voicemail.
“I have got my family round me. If it wasn’t for them I don’t think I could cope. We just want Craig to get in touch. He was last seen in the early hours of the morning so it’s possible someone spotted him while they were driving past. If anyone knows where he is or saw him around the time he went missing they should tell the police so we can trace him.”
Provost Billie Petrie, who has close connections with the village, visited the family on Monday to offer his support.
He said: “Craig is well known in the village and the whole community is in shock. I know his grandparents very well and his family are distraught. Everybody is doing their best to find him and I hope the receive some good news soon.” It is understood that no money has been withdrawn from his bank account and his mobile phone has not been used since he went missing.
Craig is 5 feet 8 inches tall with a slim build. He has short brown hair and blue eyes and was last seen wearing a blue t-shirt, blue jeans and white Nike trainers.
Chief Inspector Andy MacDonald of Dumbarton Police Office is appealing for information on Craig’s whereabouts.
He said: “All efforts to date have failed to trace Craig and we are becoming increasingly concerned for his safety and welfare.
“There have been no sightings of Craig and no contact made with family or friends.
“Craig’s family are naturally very worried and want him to come home. I would appeal directly to Craig or anyone who may have information regarding him to contact Dumbarton Police Office on 01389 822000 or Crime Stoppers anomalously on 0800 555111.”
