Killer road claims another victim
By Rachel Lamb
The A82 claimed another victim at the weekend.
A biker was killed following a horrific crash on the danger road on Friday morning.
The man suffered fatal injuries when his motorcycle collided with a heavy goods vehicle near the Loch Lomond Holiday Park in Arrochar.
Emergency services rushed to the scene and treated the man by the side of the road but they were unable to save him and he died a short time later. The 31-year-old driver of the lorry was uninjured.
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward following the fatal accident, which took place at around 10.40am on May 9.
Provost Billy Petrie has called for immediate action to improve safety on the notorious road. He said: “Unfortunately, another tragic accident has occurred.
“There are proposals in the pipeline to get something done about this road which has been a problem for many years but things need to be speeded up.
“Perhaps this death could have been avoided if the work had already taken place.
“I will take this matter up directly with our member of parliament to ensure things get moved along.”
A full report on the circumstances will be forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal.
Constable David Cameron from the Road Policing Department at Greenock is appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact the department on 01475 492624.
