OPEN GREEN: Bowlers prepare for the final.

THE finals of the Dumbartonshire Bowling Association were held at Helensburgh BC on Sunday.

DBA President Roger Jones, who plays out of Helensburgh BC, welcomed all the players from clubs ranging from Westermains in Kirkintilloch, to ones nearby.

Club President Don Lilley then handed the greens over to him and the action began.

The games were played in less than perfect weather but still produced some great bowling. The East side of the county, from Clydebank to Kirkintilloch, collected five of the six trophies played for.

The only winner from the west side was Andy McFarlane from Eastfield BC who won the Junior singles.

After the meal provided by the Ladies, the players in the county who had played 100 or more games in the county team were presented with a special medal to commemorate their achievement.

Among those receiving the medal were Helensburgh player George Sneddon and former Helensburgh player Mick Toole.

The Presidents wife Jenny Jones presented the prizes to the winners, assisted by DBA Secretary Jimmy Dalziel. Provost Billy Petrie welcomed all the players and commented on the standard of play and the importance of bowling clubs continuing to exist.

President Alistair Leckie of the GBA thanked the DBA for the invitations to the various Associations represented and the day closed with a vote of thanks from the DBA Honorary President Alistair Trotter
