Vandals go on rampage

Heartless vandals went on a late-night rampage last week, stealing from village shops and trashing a children’s playgroup.

Troublemakers struck in the heart of Cardross, snatching supplies left out for shops and cafes, breaking into the Scout Hall and covering equipment belonging to a local toddler group with eggs, milk and paint.

Art materials owned by Cardross Playgroup were stolen from a padlocked shed and used to do much of the damage.

Carol Paterson, manager of the playgroup — which is held in the church hall — said: “When I came to work on Tuesday morning I couldn’t believe it. They had stolen milk from the post office and rolls from Laura’s Cafe and they had covered the windows with milk, eggs and paint. They couldn’t get into the shed round the back where we keep our supplies because it was padlocked, so they prised the doors off their runners so they could get their arms inside and get their hands on the paint. Everything was covered in it. "

Police confirmed that the Playgroup shed was broken into some time between 1pm on June 23 and 8.40am the next day.
