We're only here for the beer...

FIFTEEN firkins of fine beer (and a little scrumpy) were consumed by the festival-goers at the 7th Annual Cove and Kilcreggan Real Ale Festival on Saturday.
The 14 firkins (each containing 70 pints) of beer and one of scrumpy included such delightful offerings as Hullabaloo, Bamboozle, Summa’ That and Old Scatness, as well as a few unpublishable names, attracted real ale enthusiasts from a’ the airts and kept the local bus companies and ferry service busy throughout the day.
The doors opened and the first pint was pulled at noon and the final pint from the last cask was drawn at closing time at 10pm.
Fine food was served all day in the family area, and music was provided for the hundreds of visitors by local bands Crowded Croft and Burnt Orange.
The event was organised by a valiant band of volunteers led by Richard Coates and Tony Belk and they managed to raise some £1,800 for the Burgh Hall Restoration Fund — a record for the festival.
Richard Reeve of the Cove Burgh Hall committee said: “The money will be spent on roof work and facade repairs before winter weather arrives in force and next spring we plan to renovate and upgrade the ladies WC. Many thanks to helpers in the kitchen and behind the bar — it was a long tiring day but worthwhile we are extremely pleased with the support.”
