Anger as trees get the chop
By Fiona Howard
BARE: How the area looks after the tree-felling.
RESIDENTS in and around the Colgrain area of Helensburgh were horrified last week to see the trees along the railway embankment being felled.
Said one resident: “It really has changed the whole look of the area.
It is absolutely ridiculous what they are doing, quite shocking.
“The trees they are felling are not anywhere near the railway line and they are very large mature trees, 30 or 40 years old. I can’t understand why they would just cut them down.
“I would understand if they were cutting the ones that were near the line and could fall onto the railway and I could understand them felling dangerous or dead trees, but they have just come along and felled the lot.”
She continued: “I contacted a community council member about it but apparently there is nothing that can be done because these trees are not covered by a tree preservation order.
“It seems that Network Rail can just go right ahead and do what they want."
