Athene wraps up series win

Printer Print Article

ATHENE secured yet another victory in the latest round of Gareloch sailing and, with one race still to go, the series win.

A distinct lack of wind made conditions tricky, but there was enough of a breath to get the group to the front line without paddling.

A course was set to D, north of Clynder.

Catriona was a little premature and had to duck the line, which left Athene and Iris ahead and to windward.

Some subtle lee bow effect kept Teal in third place.

Athene and Iris maintained their positions.

Catriona escaped to leeward of Teal and had boat-speed on the fleet.

It was at the expense of pointing, though, and she rounded D third.

There was enough wind to keep spinnakers full across the loch to G and back to the line.

Athene wrapped up the series with a fine victory, as the group enjoyed a far better race than the conditions allowed them to expect.

Results: 1 — Athene, 2 — Iris, 3 — Catriona, 4 — Teal, 5 — Hermes.
