Stiff test for runners

Printer Print Article

THE male and female cross country teams from Helensburgh Amateur Athletics Club faced stiff competition at the West District Cross Country Championship.

Several members were a bit below par because of the annual Christmas dinner dance the night before.

However, the girls managed to complete two laps of the testing muddy course with the men running three gruelling laps.

Julia Henderson ran a fine race to finish 13th overall in a time of 28.38.

Michelle Hetherington ran a well paced race to finish in 20th place (29.49) and picked up 3rd vet spot.

The scoring team was completed by Jenny Fitzgerald in 45th place (33.07) and Jan Fellowes in 47th (33.46).

Next home for the club were Emma Cummins (53rd, 34.57) and Anna Wylie (57th, 36.57).

The team prize went to Bellahouston ladies with Helensburgh coming in 8th.

In the men’s race Damien Theaker ran well to finish in 59th place in 40.48.

Paul Thompson was 14 seconds and two places behind. Third home for the Burgh was Erwin Losekoot (79th, 43.00) followed by Ross McInroy (96th, 45.46).

Ken White made an all too rare outing to finish in 101th spot (45.25) with Alistair Wylie completing the scoring team of six in 133rd place (51.34).

The team was 13th overall but Damien, Paul and Ross made up the vet team which came in 4th.
