Runners' charity event
WHILE many of us were nursing hangovers from celebrating the New Year, two dedicated runners were in action for charity.
Alison Simpson and Karl Holditch, both members of Helensburgh Running Club, took part in the New Year's Day triathlon in Edinburgh.
The event took place at the Commonwealth Pool and around Arthur's Seat. Distances covered were a 400 metre swim followed by a 11 mile cycle, culminating in a 3.5 mile run.
Conditions on the day were far from perfect with strong winds and rain around Arthur's seat, but both athletes managed to finish the race — Karl in one hour 30 minutes and Alison in one hour 50 minutes.
Both Karl and Alison were very proud of their achievement and raised money for a local family whose son has cerebral palsy.
