A DOCTOR headed to New York for her first ever marathon and managed to raise thousands for charity.

Former Helensburgh resident Elayne Forbes, who now lives in Glasgow, took time out from her work at The Glasgow Hospital for Sick Children at Yorkhill, to complete the 26 mile event.

Elayne was joined on her mission by fellow runner Sam.

In the end, she took the marathon in her stride and is now considering another very soon.

She raised more than £2500 for the charity “Children with Leukemia” thanks to generous sponsorship from friends and family.

And her boyfriend was there at the finish line to congratulate her on completing her marathon task.
