FANTASTIC FORM: Ardencaple under 13s are flying after stepping up to the SYCA League.

ARDENCAPLE Boys Club’s under 13s have just recorded successive victories over both halves of the Old Firm.

Following two unbeaten seasons playing locally in the West Dunbartonshire Development League, and in a bid to secure tougher opposition on a regular basis, Ardencaple decided to enter the Strathclyde Youth Club Association (SYCA) League.

Competing against teams from all over West Central Scotland, they look forward to the prospect of playing host to the Old Firm as well as teams such as Clyde BC, Partick Thistle BC and Morton BC.

After a successful start to the season in the League Cup, which saw them qualify for the 1st Division of the League, they now sit proudly on top after five games with a 100 per cent record and a maximum 15 points.

Playing on their new home pitch — ‘Fortress Rhu’ — courtesy of CNB, they saw off a strong Rangers North side with a 2-0 win, both goals scored by dead-ball expert Craig Callander.

Amazingly, Craig, who plays at left back, currently shares top scorer slot with striker/midfielder David Holborn on 14.

Next up was Celtic Juniors, sitting in 2nd position in the League prior to the match.

A powerful and disciplined performance saw Ardencaple lead 2-1 at half-time with goals from Frazer Chalmers and Jonny Dyer.

They went on to enforce their superiority after the break, playing some very attractive football on a heavy pitch and sealed a 3-1 victory with a well-taken goal by Ben Craig.

This exceptional young team are going to take some beating. Perhaps their biggest threat lies in the possibility of losing players to professional youth set-ups with SPL clubs such as Kilmarnock, St. Mirren and Rangers already showing an interest.

They travel to Greenock tonight (Thursday) to play a friendly fixture against Morton’s professional youth squad, then back to league business at the weekend, away to Clyde BC.

Then it is time for the boys to enjoy their well-earned Christmas day out, a tour of Love Street stadium and tickets to the St Mirren vs Dundee Utd match, with lunch provided by our club sponsor at Lombardi’s Italian Restaurant in Paisley.

Thanks also to St. Mirren Football Club for their continued support.

The Club operates two 11-a-side teams this season for boys born in 1995 and are always on the lookout for new players.

Anyone interested in joining the team should call Craig Holborn on 01436-671918 and arrange to come along for a trial.
