Rothesay Brandane 3 - Rhu Amts 0

RHU took the ferry to Rothesay on Saturday to play their first league game since October 26 and it proved to be a fruitless trip.

Despite decent friendly results and a good cup run in the interim period, Rhu turned in a thoroughly below par performance.

Rothesay started strongly, winning three corners in the first ten minutes, but the defence held firm.

The defence seemed solid but the rest of the side struggled to get their act together, with a fired up Rothesay giving them little time to settle.

Rhu’s keeper Heron was called in to action early on, with a couple of important saves to keep the sides level.

Eventually, the visitors started to play and Falconer nearly broke the deadlock when put through by George.

The action begand to flow and Heron denied the home side once more with a top class save, while at the other end, Smallwood was not far away with his effort on goal.

The first goal came from the penalty spot, Rothesay forging ahead after McMillan was harshly punished by the referee for a challenge in the box.

Unlike the first, Rhu started well in the second half and Falconer almost levelled when his first time shot went just past the post.

But this was as good as it got for the side still rooted to the bottom of the Caledonian League Division Two.

Rothesay caught their opponents on the break and netted for a comfortable lead.

At this point, the Rhu coaching staff made several changes but it made little difference and instead Rothesay added a killer third.

A poor performance from Rhu and hopefully very much a one-off.

Rhu: Heron McIntyre, P Ross, Miller, McMillan, Smallwood, Earl, Gibson, George, Black and Falconer. Subs: Young, C Ross, Scullion, Watters and Walker.

Rhu are away again on Saturday in a league fixture against Muirend, kick off 2pm.
