Champions' feast

HUNGRY FOR MORE: Hermitage Academy U15s have been eating healthily as they prepare for Milan.
HERMITAGE Academy’s heroic U15s football team have been undertaking a gruelling fitness schedule — and even taken up cooking — as they prepare for a dream trip to Italy in June.
Last June, the U14s side were crowned Glasgow Schools’ League Champions.
And this summer the boys will be heading for Milan as 16 members of the team will attend an AC Milan coaching camp. The camp comprises three days of intense coaching from club staff, two competitive games against Milanese opposition and a tour of the world famous San Siro.
But unwilling to rest on their laurels, the boys have been undertaking all manner of additional activities and events to enhance their overall social, cultural and physical development.
Outside of two hours of weekly training, the players can be found in the school fitness suite, working on their own levels of physical fitness.
And to ensure the calories don’t pile up away from the pitch, the schools’ Home Economics department has laid on nutrition classes informing the boys on the best types of food to eat and enabling them to prepare healthy meals themselves.
The boys are even starting to study Italian before their trip, making their preparation as thorough as possible.
Coach Douglas Morgan said: “The effort they demonstrate to their extra language lessons reflects the positive and mature approach they have towards their football and all aspects of the school that surrounds it.”
