George's wonder 100
By David Christie
BOWLING UP A CENTURY: George Sneddon.
POPULAR Burgh bowler George Sneddon could be forgiven for expecting a telegram from the Queen.
For the well known and highly respected Helensburgh Bowling Club member has just reached a landmark 100 matches for West Dunbartonshire County.
George, who has represented his country on numerous occasions, achieved this impressive tally playing for the Andrew Hamilton team against Glasgow at Colgrain.
It took George just six years from joining HBC to win his first of eight club championships, back in 1963 and, as the picture top right shows, George did the double that year, collecting the President’s trophy too.
His first cap was won in 1967 when George was 23, and even a stint working in the Middle East didn’t disrupt his charge towards the century.
