BUDDING hockey stars from Helensburgh headed for Arran to compete in an annual invitational tournament.

Some 24 members from Helensburgh Junior Hockey Club (HJHC) set off after school on the Friday, undettered by wet and windy conditions — not to mention a delayed ferry crossing.

With improved weather the following day, Scotland U16 coach Alan Auld led the players through a warm up and training drills before a round robin of friendly matches.

After the Saturday action, the players and parents headed for some well earned food where they rubbed shoulders with a celebrity — well Coronation Street actor Gray O’Brien, who plays Tony Gordon, who happened to be on the island.

Seven different clubs took to the hockey pitch on the Sunday, with a total of 16 teams from three different age groups.
