A tough test at Ardencaple
SATURDAY’S weather was the only thing to defeat Helensburgh RFC in the last few weeks.
Despite the valiant efforts of a few brave and very wet volunteers, Saturday’s home matches for both the first and second teams at Ardencaple had to be postponed, and the third XV match due to be played at Cambuslang was also lost to the quite appalling weather.
Helensburgh’s huge investment in drainage and sanding over the past 10 years means the pitches are much less susceptible to flooding.
But Saturday’s deluge following a very wet week left both teams and fans disappointed as the 1st XV looked to continue their recent very impressive form against Gordonians from Aberdeen.
Top of the league side Lasswade defeated second placed Strathmore 14-12 in a tight match at Forfar and Helensburgh now face their biggest challenge of the season when the undefeated table topping side visit Ardencaple on Saturday with kick off at the earlier time of 2pm.
This will be an opportunity to judge first how far the young Burgh side have come since last season under the coaching of Liam McIntyre and a large support to will the boys on would be much appreciated.
