ACHA's stance on anti-social tenants

Printer Print Article

I would like to clarify one point in your otherwise excellent piece on ACHA’s stance with respect to anti-social behaviour and drug dealing (Helensburgh Advertiser May 1).

An unattributed source in your article indicates that we had 10 years to sort this problem out. Could I draw to your readers’ attention the fact that ACHA has been the landlord of the property concerned for only 18 months.

In the 18 months of ACHA’s existence we have obtained 36 decrees for the recovery of possession of properties where breaches of tenancy have occurred, including drug dealing and anti-social behaviour. It is not the responsibility of ACHA for what went before.

I hope your readers will see from the examples I covered that the association is absolutely determined to work with the vast majority of our tenants, who are law-abiding decent citizens, to deal with the minority who act in an unlawful manner to the detriment of our communities.

ACHA does, however, share a frustration with many that the current legal processes take too long to reach a conclusion. It is the association’s intention to raise this matter with the Justice Minister, Kenny MacAskill MSP.

William McIntyre

Chairman, Helensburgh and

Lomond Area Committee,

ACHA
