Road sign of the times?

I have just returned from holiday in Spain and would like to thank our (usually) cash-strapped council for the new signs on Sinclair Street advising me to drive on the left side of the road, even though I have no need for these.
Indeed, after over 30 years driving in Helensburgh, I have never witnessed anyone driving down Sinclair Street on the wrong side! Perhaps near airports would be a better site for such reminders? Also, noticing the shiny new lampposts being installed in place of the perfectly good dirty grey ones, am I correct to assume with this seemingly unexpected cash windfall, our caring council will soon begin the long overdue resurfacing of our dreadful roads?
