Remove the 'Rack of Lamb'
IN FOR A ROASTING: The 'Rack of Lamb' sculpture.
IT is time to remove the ‘Rack of Lamb’ roundabout embarrassment on the A82.
My wife and I have just returned from a trip to Normandy to retrace my wife’s father’s progress through France, Belgium and Holland after landing on D-Day 1944 on Juno Beach as a Major in the Royal Engineers.
Whilst we were naturally moved by what our troops went through in June 1944, we were very impressed by the cleanliness and lack of graffiti in Normandy, and in the Belgium and Dutch towns that we visited. Most markedly, we came across many very attractive floral/shrubbery roundabouts which, very easily, put our wickedly expensive ‘Rack of Lamb’ national park roundabout on the A82 to shame, and also the Lomond Shores — grain silo — Drumkinnon Tower and now the profligate national park offices in Balloch.
If it was not for the money-squandering bodies responsible for these monstrosities, we would recommend that they visit Normandy to learn a thing or two about design, cleanliness of the environment, and the use of public funds.
The Rack of Lamb should be replaced by a ‘living’ display of flowers and/or shrubs, including heathers.
Let us have a more realistic and imaginative natural display as a more fitting welcome to the Loch Lomond National Park and something that we can be proud of.
