HELENSBURGH and District Crime Prevention Panel met last week to discuss initiatives which will be taken forward in the near future.

The panel is to work with trading standards on a 'no cold caller' initiative.

Further personal safety alarms have also been purchased by the panel and are available from Helensburgh Police Office and Grey Matters in Colquhoun Square, Helensburgh.

The is the second stock of the pockt-sized alarms the panel has invested in and are designed to create a powerful noise when activated.

The noise is deisgned to attract attention to the user's predicament.

PC Andy Crawford of Helensburgh Police said the alarms are used by many people who work unsociable hours or anyone who requires a little reasurance.

He addded: "The alarms proved so popular preiovusly that we felt it worthwhile to purchase more." The panel would appreciate a 1 donation to be made for every alarm to help cover the costs.

At the meeting Duncan Reay, panel member and personal safety representative for Key Housing, was given a donation of 75 towards the purchase of a projector to allow him to carry out safety presentations.
