THE next Helensburgh Music Society concert will see a talented trio take to the stage at the Tower Digital Arts Centre this weekend.

The Kapten trio – comprising graduates of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre and Oxford University – will perform piano trios by Beethoven (B flat major), Shostakovich (C minor) and Schubert (E flat major).

The programme includes Beethoven’s Trio, nicknamed Gassenhauer (Street Song), a 17-year-old’s romantic Trio by Shostakovich and a Trio by Schubert, written later in his short life.

The Kapten Trio, which includes Kristi Kapten on piano, Rachel Spencer on violin and Duncan Strachan on cello, met and formed in 2011 while they were all Masters students at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

All three have had successful solo careers and are developing a reputation as one of the top trios in the country, known for their energetic, passionate and exciting performances across the UK and further afield.

The talented ensemble are set to perform to audiences in Helensburgh on Saturday, December 2 at 7.30pm.

The concert will be the last of the Helensburgh Music Society’s concerts this year.

The next concert in the 38th season will see Kosmos – comprising Harriet MacKenzie on violin, Meg Hamilton on viola and Milos Milivojevic on accordion – take to the stage with their programme inspired by music from all around the globe, on Saturday, January 13.
