Organisers of the Helensburgh Winter Festival have confirmed this weekend's events will go ahead in their entirety despite forecasts of rain and high winds.

Helensburgh Central councillor Gary Mulvaney, festival chairman, said none of the attractions would be affected by the predicted inclement weather.

He added: "I can absolutely confirm that the winter festival will go ahead.

"There is no issue of attractions not being there. The weather forecast doesn't look great but there's dry spells forecast for Saturday certainly and parts of Sunday and I think the wind will be stronger than we've had recently but the festival will go ahead in its entirety."

The winter festival kicks off tonight with a performance from the Military Wives Choir and the Neptune Voluntary Band at the Tower Digital Arts Centre on Sinclair Street at 7.30pm.

There will also be a disco at the popular ice skating rink in Colquhoun Square.

Over the weekend there will be a packed programme of events, including a busy market, a talent variety show and the return of the popular Santa Dash on Sunday.
