Film crews coming to Argyll and Bute have invested more than £500,000 in 2015 alone, according to a new report from the council.

A report to go before councillors on Thursday highlights some of the productions which have been filmed in the region, and they will be asked to note the economic benefit brought to Argyll and Bute.

There were more than 100 enquiries from filmmakers in 2015, resulting in a production spend of £524,500 with 603 cast and crew involved over 118 filming days.

Councillors on the Environment, Development and Infrastructure committee at Thursday's meeting in Lochgilphead are to be given an update on the service the council offers to the screen industries, which productions have been filmed, and the benefits in attracting tourism to the area.

A BBC comedy about ‘the stag do from hell’ was filmed nearby Helensburgh and Lomond, in locations including Glen Douglas and the Rest and Be Thankful.

Starring Jim Howick, Stag is the story of a schoolteacher who joins his future brother in law and some obnoxious friends.

The three-part series saw a cast and crew of 60 also filming in Glen Kinglas and the Garelochhead training camp for 13 days.

One of the highest profile productions was the remake of Whisky Galore, with a cast including Eddie Izzard filming in Luss and at Geilston House and gardens in Cardross.

The film also shot in neighbouring local authority West Dunbartonshire.

The new report shows that the council received 110 enquiries in 2015, with 48 productions filmed during the year and one proposed.

Florence and the Machine filmed the videos for Queen of Peace and Long & Lost at Easdale Island and Ellenabeich – with the videos having been watched over three million times on YouTube so far.

The council report adds: “We are continually developing our website and services on offer to take advantage of this growth sector and the economic opportunities that it can bring to our area, and proactively market the area for film tourism.”

The report will be considered by the council’s environment, development and infrastructure committee on Thursday.
