CHARITY was the real winner when a crowd of eager participants descended on Helensburgh Golf Club to take part in their annual fundraising day.

More than 100 members of the club took part in the event with other players from clubs in the outwith the area lending their support too.

One of the high-profile participants was former Rangers, Everton and Scotland manager Walter Smith, a resident of the town and he was only too happy to pledge his support.

Money raised from the charity day will now go towards the RNLI, a widely supported and well-respected organisation throughout Argyll and Bute.

Pictured presenting the cheque for £143 to the RNLI is Helensburgh Golf Club captain Ian Irving, along with Brian Aitken of the RNLI and Dinkie Fairley who donated the RNLI Trophy for the competition.
