A PRINCE fan has paid tribute to the star by taking a look back at the time her dreams came true and she meet the icon.

The Purple Rain singer and songwriter was found dead last Thursday at his Minnesota home. He was 57.

Back in 1988 Lisa Carswell, from Rosneath, wasn’t content with just getting her hands on tickets for the superstar's Wembley concert in August of that year, she went one step further and got to meet the reclusive star at a VIP reception.

The former Advertiser employee used to be the organiser for the Scottish branch of his fan club called Controversy.

She said: “A group of the Scottish fans were travelling to his Lovesexy Concert and I was travelling with the group. I was asked by Eileen Murton who was the main UK organiser of the club to be at Wembley Arena at midday, the day of the concert and assumed it was for a fan meet up.”

Lisa arrived and was greeted by three huge bodyguards who ushered them into a lift and up to a room. Shortly after the door opened and Prince sauntered in and sat at the table.

She added: “I was so nervous. I remember I was shaking and could barely get words out, but Prince and I did speak and said hi to each other and I asked for his autograph. He signed autographs for about 20 minutes and spoke to us all. He was very quietly spoken and kept his responses pretty short.

“He signed his autograph ‘Love God P’88’ on a scrap of paper for me. I remember one fan gave him a ten pound note and he drew a moustache and glasses on the Queen.”

At the concert Lisa and her group had seats right at the front, he waved at them and “sang just about every song he had made” said Lisa in 1988.

The mum of four now lives in Swindon, but she still remembers the “amazing” concert. Lisa told the Advertiser: “I grew out of my star-struck phase and nowadays I still prefer his earlier albums. I was so shocked to hear of his passing. He was so young it is hard to believe such a huge talent is gone forever. This year has been an awful one for losing icons. First Bowie and now Prince.

“I am not surprised his funeral was held so privately, he was a very reclusive star and I feel very lucky to have been one of the few fans that got to meet him that day.”
