COPS who carried out a drugs raid on a house in Helensburgh discovered hundreds of pounds worth of heroin.

Dumbarton Sheriff Court heard that cops with search warrants attended at the home of 40-year-old Paul Harkin on December 16 last year.

Procurator fiscal depute Emma Thomson outlined the circumstances of the drugs find to the court saying that once inside the property in Williamson Drive they discovered a brown substance that was later found to be the class A drug heroin worth £190, and then found two further £20 deals of the drug. They also discovered £365 in cash within the house.

Harkin had pleaded guilty during an earlier appearance at the court to a charge of being in possession of the drug with the intent to supply it to another or others. He was appearing back in the dock to be sentenced.

Harkin's defence solicitor said in mitigation that his client had a number of difficulties in his life but was willing to comply with any order imposed by the court.

Sheriff Maxwell Hendry adjourned the matter until May 24 and called for a drug treatment and testing order (DTTO) assessment to be carried out, saying: "This is not an easy option. From the outset you will be required to attend a number of meetings. This is an opportunity but you have to be willing. Do you understand?"
