Twenty years ago we published a report on Lomond School's Clarendon Concert - which took the audience on a worldwide musical journey.

Here's how we reported the event in our issue of June 27, 1996...

"This summer’s Clarendon Concert at Lomond School took us on a musical tour of the world.

"Before the show began, the stage décor of flags and greetings in many languages signalled the theme for the evening’s entertainment.

"This was ably introduced by the Clarendon Strings, composed of members from J2, J3 and J5, followed by a charming piano recital from Katie Baynham.

"J1 class then leapt into action with On Safari – the music and the costumes conjuring up the thrills and dangers of the jungle.

"Each child had his or her own snake for the occasion –and costumes were impressive.

"Following this an announcement from British Airways at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris announced J2’s arrival in France.

"Then our friendly visiting New Zealander, Mr Kit Murray, alias pilot of all trades, in an accent that you would take for Australian, unless you came from that place, introduced J3 to Down Under.

"J4’s contribution from The Big Country showed us some lively square dancing and an authentic atmospheric solo from Euan Mitchell, of Home, Home on the Range.

"Aided by Kit Murray’s singular ‘style’ and knowledge as ‘native’ kiwi, J5’s interpretation of Polynesian and Maori songs and dances, not unlike the famous Haka war dance of the New Zealand rugby team filled the auditorium with enthusiasm and intensity making a fitting climax to a wonderful evening."
