THE community was “out in force” when Colgrain Primary School in Redgauntlet Road held its family fun day.

Thankfully, the weather was kind on the day and there were a variety of attractions to keep the children entertained.

Attractions included a bouncy castle, stalls, refreshments, and a DJ, whil the emergency services and naval officers from Faslane were also on hand to show off some of their equipment.

In addition the kids got the opportunity to get their faces painted, which proved highly popular.

Janet Frame, one of the organisers, revealed that the event raised £1,815 for the school to aid their technology programme.

Janet said: “There were more than 100 people there on the day and there were lots of things going on. We had the MoD Police, a crew from Helensburgh fire station and the Royal Navy Bomb Disposal visit and the children really enjoyed seeing them.”

Johanna McClelland, head teacher, said: “The Colgrain community was out in force. The variety of activities was amazing and at the helm, as usual, was Mrs Janet Frame, chair of Colgrain Parent Teacher Council.

“Mrs Frame always prefers to engage in the community and this was truly evident in the range of professionals she succeeded in inviting.

“The MD Police, the Naval Bomb Disposal Unit, the fire service to name but a few.

“Mrs Frame was also most ably assisted by her parent-teacher council team and the range of preparation beforehand was an immense task.

“Thank you to Mrs Frame and all the parent-teacher council members and many parents.

“I would like to extend my thanks to Wendy Gammon, Colgrain Primary catering manager, who cooked every piece of bacon and hot dogs for sale at the fayre.

“We are indebted to Mr J Palmer who personally organised all the catering resources for us. As usual, many parents also offered to help on the day of the fayre.

“Many thanks to all parents for helping and the incredible amount of donations received.

“Invites were also sent to new parents of nursery pupils about to start Colgrain.

“They commented on enjoying feeling part of the Colgrain school community at this event.

“The essence of an occasion like this is to bring the Colgrain community together and it is always so pleasurable to meet up with former pupils at Colgrain at the Spring Fayre too.

“The turnout of Colgrain staff, nursery, clerical, kitchen staff, support staff, teachers, was tremendous and Mr Bell, our temporary janitor, worked so hard.”

Mrs Frame also thanked local business Minuteman Press for the pr
