OVER 70 people came out to welcome Helensburgh's newest addition last weekend, the Oak Tree Gallery situated on East King Street.

Celebrating the opening of the new gallery space, along with the 40 year anniversary of Acorn Art Picture Framers from which it has grown, the Oak Tree is a fantastic addition to the town.

Sarah Benson, sister to Acorn Art Picture Framers' founder, Francis Gardener, officially opened the gallery.

Gallery owner, Dawn Perry, commented on the exhibition: "It was great having so many people come along to mark the gallery's opening and it was a really lovely atmosphere.

"There were lots of compliments about the size of the space, which is deceptively large. There was also glowing praise for the gallery's lighting, as it does a great job of showcasing the art work.

"Jackie Baillie came along and commented that the gallery was a great idea for Helensburgh."

The opening exhibition has featured work from local artists. Ultimately though, Oak Tree Gallery will serve as the host to artists seeking to put on their own exhibition.

Working on a set fee basis, they do not ask for a commission from artists. This system is designed to help up and coming to artists set up exhibitions, without the fear of costly commission fees galleries often expect.

"At the Oak Tree Gallery we hope to help artists along in their career," explained Dawn.

"We set out to create an artistic hub; artists can come along and learn to use their paints in the workshop, and then go on to sell their paintings at the end of the day."

A multi-functional space, the Oak Tree is also available to hire out for meetings, classes and demonstrations, though chiefly it is set up to support artists.

The Oak Tree Gallery extend an invite for any craft workers to get in touch, whether to hold an exhibition or use the workshop space.

Only a short walk from Helensburgh Central railway station, the gallery has easy access to transport links and to the city of Glasgow.
