Helensburgh has hosted its first ever Job Fair – with around 150 local people seeking work coming along to meet 17 private, public and voluntary sector employers from the area.

Hosted by the Argyll and Bute Employability Partnership, the event took place at Hermitage Academy, giving a chance for job-seekers from the Helensburgh area to find out more about local work and training opportunities.

Exhibitors included Argyll and Bute Council, Argyll Holidays, the Army, Royal Navy and RAF, ACHA, Cornerstone, Enable, Mears Care, Argyll and Bute Homecare, Loch Lomond Golf Club, Adult Learning, Skills Development Scotland, Key Community Support, Tell, Clyde Marine and the Construction Industry Training Board.

Eileen Downie, work services manager at Helensburgh's JobCentre Plus and employer and partnership manager for Argyll and Bute, said: “It was good to see new, established and expanding businesses engaging with local jobseekers.

“Feedback from both exhibitors and jobseekers demonstrated a need for future events.”

Employability partnerships aim to help the Scottish Government achieve its aim of increasing the number of people in rewarding and sustained work.

The Argyll and Bute Employability Partnership's members include the council, Argyll College, Argyll Training, the NHS, the Argyll and Bute Social Enterprise Network and Argyll Voluntary Action.
