POLICE in Helensburgh took part in a day of action last week to raise awareness of Anti-Slavery Day.

The focus of the activity was around intelligence-led welfare visits to business premises and awareness raising.

Tackling human trafficking is a priority for Police Scotland and it is happening in Scotland now and both adults and children are victims.

Police Scotland has requested the public and businesses have social and ethical awareness.

Businesses need to think about their recruitment practices.

Landlords or letting agents need to know who they are renting property to – trafficked people must live and work somewhere.

They are determined to improve the intelligence picture in order to gain a better understanding of trafficking in Scotland and the organised crime groups which are involved.

A spokesman said: “Trafficking is unacceptable. We will target those who control, abuse and exploit others by working collaboratively with partners to ensure that Scotland is a hostile environment to this sickening trade.”
