WATER charges in Scotland will rise by around £6 a year for an average household in 2017-18.

Scottish Water announced this week that charges would rise by 1.6 per cent across all council tax bands in Scotland from April 1.

The combined water supply and waste water collection charge for a Band D property in 2017-18 will be £430.56 - an increase of £6.66 on the current charge.

Chief executive Douglas Millican said: “Scottish Water customers continue to enjoy the benefits of one of the UK’s best value water and waste water services.

“The quality of drinking water received by our customers has never been higher, while we’ve continued to achieve excellent customer satisfaction results.”

Scottish Water recently announced that renewal of the main sewer pipe between Helensburgh and Cardross would be completed by May of this year, while work is also to take place to end the discharge of untreated waste water into the Firth of Clyde off Rhu.
