A RECORD 1.3 million people visited Loch Lomond Shores in the course of 2016, the complex's operators have revealed.

The number is the highest in the 15-year history of the Balloch facility and represents an increase of more than five per cent on the 2015 figure.

In the course of 2016, Loch Lomond Shores hosted several major events, such as the Great Scottish Swim, Springfest and the Loch Lomond Food & Drink Festival, and also welcomed more than 40,000 coach passengers from throughout the UK and overseas.

In June the attraction scooped the top accolade at the prestigious national Scottish Hospitality Awards and was officially named Scotland’s Best Day Out.

Clare Gemmell, general manager of Loch Lomond Shores, said: “It has been another bustling year at Loch Lomond Shores, and with such an excellent variety of activities, shopping and eating opportunities alongside a busy event schedule we are delighted that so many visitors have come to enjoy our location.”

Plans are under way to develop a programme of activities to celebrate the complex's 15th birthday later this year.
