ANTI-NUCLEAR campaigners are celebrating the 35th anniversary of the Faslane peace camp by hosting a public open day at the Shandon site this weekend.

All visitors are welcome to the event in which visitors will receive information on their campaign and peace campers will be on hand to give people a guided tour around the camp and answer any questions people might have.

Although the Peace Camp is always open to visitors, the campaigners hope the open day celebration will attract people for a cup of tea and some food.

The day is free to attend, but donations are welcomed and the peace campers have appealed for the public to donate money and help them make necessary repairs around the camp.

One of the most distinctive and characteristic parts of the camp are the colourful caravans, which house anti-nuclear activists. Some of the caravans are almost as old as the camp itself and despite repairs have reached retirement.

Parts of the camp's infrastructure are being renewed and things are being built totally new, but campers are looking for people to help.

In particular they have issued an appeal for new caravans, which they can offer to both visitors and residents.

Their blog - faslanepeacecamp.wordpress.com - specifies that they are "not too picky", and as long as caravans don't have mould, rot, termites or other not easily fixed problems., they are happy to head along and have a look.

They are not worried about outdated interiors and are looking for people who can help to get in touch. Campers can take them for free or agree on a suitable price, they just ask that people get in touch.

The open day will take place this weekend on Saturday, February 25, starting at 10am and all are welcome to attend.

The peace camp is located at Shandon near Helensburgh and the postcode is G84 8HL. Visitors can use the 316 bus from Helensburgh to Garelochhead and Coulport to reach the camp.
