A HELENSBURGH business owner is set to appear on prime time BBC television this Saturday night.

Melanie Andrews, owner and proprietor of the Craigard Tearoom, was contacted by Hungry Bear Media in London and asked to make an appearance on the first episode of the new 'All Round to Mrs Brown's' TV show.

The show - to be broadcast on BBC1 this Saturday, March 25, at 9.15pm - is set to feature the cast of Mrs Brown's Boys, including writer, producer and comedian Brendan O'Carroll, as well as celebrity guests, and also includes audience interaction - which is where Melanie comes in.

She said: "I had the chance to offer Mrs Brown some of my Scottish homemade tablet so I wrapped it up and gave to him with the inscription - 'Red and Green should never be seen except on an Irish Queen'.

"We were there for a side splitting four hours and I can honestly say I was exhausted with laughing after this time. I'm truly delighted to have been a small part in this soon to be new hit show for Saturday night TV."

Melanie, who received an MBE in the New Year's Honour List for her services to baking and to the community in Helensburgh, was also approached to judge a baking competition at Dumbarton Academy by the school's home economics teacher.

The competition between 20 children, all participating in a two hour baking marathon, took place last night, and Melanie had the tough job of making the decisions.

More on the baking competition will feature in next week's Advertiser.
