COVE Sailing Club hosted a glitzy Casino Royale gala evening with the mission of raising funds for a new clubhouse.

More than 100 people turned out on Saturday in stunning dresses and tuxedos and made their way to the Rosslea Hall Hotel in Rhu for the Bond-themed night, complete with blackjack and roulette tables.

And the event was the real deal – helping contribute more than £11,700 to put towards a new clubhouse.

Guests were greeted with a glass of fizz and music by Peninsula harpist Pippa Reid-Foster before moving into the black, white and gold-decorated room for a three-course dinner with wine.

Among the fundraisers on the night was an auction, led by Roo Irvine of Kilcreggan Antiques, and a number of silent auctions offering prizes ranging from signed footballs to jewellery and rare whisky and even a cruise.

Organisers were “overwhelmed” by the generous donations and had to create additional space in the function hall to accommodate them.

Carol Anne Calder, one of the organising team, said: “It was an amazing evening with a fantastic result. Everyone entered into the spirit and dressed up beautifully and had an absolute blast.

“We were overwhelmed with the generosity of people who donated not just their hard-earned cash but time and services to help the club.

“I personally want to thank everyone who worked so very hard to make the event such a resounding success.”

James Bond movie theme tunes played throughout the night as guests posed for photographer Bev Burns with a life size cut-out of 007 star Daniel Craig, which was auctioned off at the end of the night.

After dinner, guests were entertained with blackjack and roulette tables and the player who collected the most chips was awarded a bumper hamper prize.

The evening concluded with a disco and Commodore John McNeilage presenting organisers Marianne McNeilage, Carol Anne Calder and Fiona Kilgore with bouquets as thanks.
