A TALENTED Lomond School musician will take to the stage in Glasgow next month as a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland's senior orchestra.

Flautist Sarah Clinch is one of more than a hundred musicians aged 13 and above who will perform at the City Halls on Sunday, April 9 at 7pm.

Sarah, a Senior 6 pupil at the Helensburgh school, won through a testing audition process after competing against young musicians from all over the country, including students from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

But Sarah’s musical accomplishments do not end with her success as a young flautist with NYOS: she has also gained a place in the National Youth Choir of Scotland (NYCOS) Training Choir and is first reserve for a place in the NYCOS main choir.

The orchestra presents a broad spectrum of classical through to contemporary repertoire. The concert programme covers a broad spectrum of classical and contemporary pieces, and comprises North and South American influences with music rarely heard in the UK or European concert halls together with works by more prominent composers inspired to celebrate the remarkable diversity of the Americas.

Under the baton of conductor Maxime Tortelier, the orchestra will perform Javelin, by Michael Torke, Samuel Barber's Second Essay for Orchestra Op. 17, Aaron Copland's El Salón México, and Symphony No. 2 Op. 30 Romantic by Howard Hanson.

With a musical pedigree possibly not seen since the Bach’s, Maxime Tortelier represents the next generation of the Tortelier clan and is equally committed to making great music with talented musicians of all ages.

He is also carrying on a fine NYOS tradition - his father, Yan Pascal, fulfilled the same role 30 years ago.

The NYOS programme continues this summer with concerts at the Glasgow Royal Conert Hall and the Caird Hall in Dundee.
