POLICE are investigating an attempted fraud by phone call to a resident in the Rosneath area.
The resident was contacted on Monday, March 20 at around 2pm.
The male suspect pretended to be from a telephone company claiming the victim had been overpaid money and was required to pay this by purchasing Moneygram vouchers from the nearby post office.
Fortunately the victim was suspicious and after contacting her bank confirmed that this was part of a scam to obtain money fraudulently.
Residents are again being reminded to watch out for the various scams in circulation and to never provide any personal information or make payments to anyone contacting them by phone, email or text message, regardless of how convincing they might seem.
Reputable organisations won't contact people in this way, and one tactic to filter these calls is to invest in an answering machine.
Police are asking people to be wary, and if anyone thinks they have fallen victim to this type of scam, to contact Police Scotland on 101.
