BOARDING pupils at Lomond School raised over £400 at a charity brunch last weekend.

As part of the ‘Boarders for Barnardo’s’ campaign, a fundraising initiative between the charity and the Boarding Schools’ Association, boarders at Lomond School have been tasked with raising £1,200 through various fundraising initiatives.

Having already raised £600 in December through a charity collection at Loch Lomond Shores, the pupils are now well on their way towards their fundraising target.

Around 85 people attended the brunch, held in Burnbrae, Lomond School’s purpose-built boarding house, and all went away satisfied.

As well as the brunch itself, the pupils organised some fundraising activities at the event, including a ‘guess the number of sweets in the jar’ competition, won by music tutor Pippa Reid-Foster, and a ‘guess the age of the giant teddy bear’ competition, won by 1-year-old William Barr.

Pupil Alice Crowson won the Easter egg hunt and was delighted to walk away with a Costa gift card.

Heads of House David Morgan and Lucy Murray said: “It’s been great fun getting involved with Barnardo’s and putting together our brunch.

"We were delighted to see so many people in attendance and to see them enjoying themselves in the name of charity.

"Hopefully we’ll be able to put on similar events in the future.”

Deborah Grossman, community fundraising manager for Barnardo’s Scotland, said: “Huge thanks to the Boarders for Barnardo’s pupils at Lomond School for hosting a Big Brunch in aid of Barnardo’s Scotland.

"We’re thrilled to have the school’s partnership supporting some of Scotland’s most vulnerable and disadvantaged children.

"Congratulations to everyone who helped and attended the brunch. It sounds like it was a fantastic morning!”

The brunch was supported by the school’s caterers, Inspire, who not only laid on a fantastic full Scottish breakfast, fresh pastries and pancakes under the guidance of head chef Craig Connelly and catering manager Claire Lane, but also sourced donations of food from suppliers.

The pupils themselves sourced balloons and flowers to create a refined atmosphere.

Boarding Houseparent Angela Cameron said: “I’m so proud of our boarders for helping to organise this event.

"They worked exceptionally hard to make it a success, and I am very pleased that we were able to raise the money for such a worthwhile cause.”

Principal Johanna Urquhart added: “Our boarders have been committed to the Boarders for Barnardo’s campaign all year.

"The 'Big Brunch' was a fantastic culmination to their contribution to a national fundraising campaign organised by the Boarding Schools’ Association and Barnardo’s.

"It is wonderful to see our young people playing their part in helping other young people make positive steps forward in their lives.'
