PUPILS and staff at Rosneath Primary School started off their jubilee celebrations with a performance of Disney's The Jungle Book.

The whole school participated in the show which they have performed for family, friends and the community.

The pupils have been rehearsing for weeks to make sure that they were performance ready with the help of their teachers and directors Christine Keech and Gregor Morrison.

Children had to audition for the leading roles and acting and singing parts and the infants provided the singing after practicing with music teacher Ms McMurtrie. The children didn't disappoint and entertained all who attended the shows.

Marianne Docherty, acting head teacher at the school, said: "The children chose the Jungle Book as the show because it came out in 1967 when the school was built.

"This was the schools main way of celebrating the jubilee but we have events ongoing over the next few weeks.

"The shows went really well , the children all did us proud and we have had really positive feedback from those who attended."

Ms Docherty extended her thanks to all the children for performing so well, parents, family and members of the community for attending the show and supporting the school, the teachers for their help in getting everything ready, the parents for helping with the costumes and the parent council for all their help.

The two shows kick-started the jubilee celebrations of the school "at the heart of the community".

The school have received lovely letters and messages from people in the community and former pupils at the school. They have also been sent old photographs and newspaper articles to help timeline the schools history in the community.

Ms Docherty added: "The jubilee of the schoool is very special for the community, it's a positive thing for everyone to celebrate and it has been lovely to see staff old and new come together to celebrate."

The jubilee of the school coincides with the jubilee of the public library which is housed within the school, making it a joint celebration for the community.

The 50th birthday celebrations continued on Saturday with a 60s-themed parade through the village and presentations and displays at the school. Full coverage in the Helensburgh Advertiser this Thursday - don't miss it!
