PUPILS, staff and residents turned out in the sunshine in Rosneath to celebrate the golden jubilee of the primary school with a colourful sixties themed parade.

The sun shone for the day of celebration which saw a current students and their families, staff, residents and past pupils tunrout to join in the school's parade from the Co-operative to the school.

The parade arrived at the school and people were greeted with retro toys, raffles, games, dancing and a room filled with Rosneath memories.

Acting head teacher at the school, Marianne Docherty, said: "The whole day was great, the weather was on our side and we had such a great turnout, loads of people joined in with the parade and made their way to the school.

"The memory room proved popular with many of the residents who enjoyed taking a wander round and picking out people the knew from photographs and events they remembered. It was lovely to see."

After the pupils had time to spend enjoying everything the celebrations had to offer they made their way outside to bury a time capsule for a future generation to open.

The children filled the time capsule with things from 2017 including toys that they played with, pictures of the technology they used and notes to the children of the future.

Ms Docherty added: "The pupils just loved putting it together and the thought that people would open it in years to come. They even helped plant it which was great to see."

As well as everyone having a great time the events raised enough money to pay for a trip to Finlaystone Country Park later in the year as part of the jubilee celebrations.

Ms Docherty extended her thanks to all the staff for their hard work and effort, the parent council for all their assistance and Ms Emma McDermid, head teacher, for all her work leading up to the celebrations.

Thanks is also extended to all the businesses who contributed by donating raffle prizes for the day.

Other jubilee celebrations in the school included performances of Disney's The Jungle Book in which pupils rehearsed for weeks in order to entertain family and friends with two shows.
