A FUNDRAISER held by a Glasgow bar has contributed towards the funeral costs of a Helensburgh man who died earlier this year.

Sean Blakey, 30, a former pupil of Hermitage Academy, was reported missing on Thursday, February 23 and his body was recovered from the River Clyde on March 9.

Sean moved to Glasgow from Helensburgh and worked in a number of bars in the area including Delmonicas and Katie’s Bar.

When both bars heard of Sean’s death they wanted to help the family in any way they could and decided to fundraise to help cover funeral costs.

Together they set up a JustGiving page which raised £2,100.

Delmonicas also set up a fundraiser in memory of Sean which took place on April 2.

The Sunday Funday saw prizes, fun and games take place all day as well as various people taking to the stage.

A post on their Facebook page read: “Raising money to cover Sean’s funeral costs is easily the most important fundraiser we have held in 25 years of Delmonicas.

“We cannot thank everyone enough for donating your money, your time and your messages of support.

“It is truly amazing the way the whole Glasgow gay scene and beyond has come together for this cause.

“Special thanks to Katie’s Bar for joining us to raise money.

“Delmonicas is more than a bar, it is a family, and we look after our own.”

The event raised a total of £2,300.

Following the fundraiser, Sean’s sister Kayra Blakey took to social media to thank everyone for their support.

Her post read: “I would like to thank Dels and their staff for what they have done and for one of the best nights I have ever had.

“Seeing all the friends of Sean coming together and helping my family and generally just having a fantastic night was amazing. Thank you again.”
