PUPILS from Lomond School battled it out against one another recently to win top spot in the school’s annual music competition.

Adjudicated by Tony Moffat, leader of the Scottish Opera Orchestra, the competition saw pupils from across the school compete to a very high standard in several categories from vocal to traditional instruments.

Having never visited Lomond School before, Mr Moffat commented on the enjoyable day he spent listening to many of the youngsters perform, and on the wide variety of instruments and styles that he heard throughout the competition.

The school’s head of music, Doug Fleming, said: “I would like to congratulate all the performers, but special congratulations to those who won their sections of the competition.

“All winners will receive trophies at Prize-giving in June and should be very proud of their performances throughout the competition.”

This year’s winners were as follows:

– Vocalists: Sophie Reid (S1-S3), Leo Martin (S4-S6).

– Instrumentalists S1-S3: Charlie Grover (piano), Lily Garthwaite (violin).

– Instrumentalists S4-S6: Sarah Clinch (flute) and Millie Grover (piano).

– Traditional instrumentalists (S1-S6): Becca Hordern and Chiara Robertson (joint).
