HELENSBURGH Garelochside Rotary Club are holding a Know Your Blood Pressure event with Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland this weekend.

The event will provide an opportunity for local people to have their blood pressure checked, and to access advice and support on the importance of having healthy blood pressure.

Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland (CHSS) developed Blood Pressure Matters as a way for people to take action today to help protect their health in the future.

Director of services at CHSS, Margaret Somerville, said: “High blood pressure is a major risk factor for stroke, and plays a significant role in heart attacks and heart disease.

“There are rarely any symptoms, making it all the more important to have your blood pressure checked.

“We’re really pleased that Helensburgh Garelochside Rotary Club are getting involved with Blood Pressure Matters, by taking action they are making a real difference to Scotland’s Health.”

CHSS works to improve the quality of life for those affected by chest, heart and stroke illness across Scotland.

Every 45 minutes someone in Scotland will experience their first stroke, of which 40 per cent could be prevented if high blood pressure was controlled.

The Know Your Blood Pressure Event will be held in Waitrose Helensburgh on Saturday, April 22 from 10am until 4pm.

Sheenah Nelson, president of Helensburgh Garelochside Rotary Club said: “Our thanks goes to Waitrose for allowing us to host this event and also to local practice personnel for their help and assistance in supporting this important information day.”
