PUPILS at Kilcreggan Primary School have been thinking about the skills they might require in the future as they researched the jobs that are available to people in their community and further afield.

Pupils interviewed chiefs from different companies about their roles at a skills fair held in the school recently.

Pupils in the nursery class interviewed school staff about their jobs and learned about how the adults help them in school and nursery.

Pupils in school interviewed their parents and researched places of employment in Kilcreggan, Helensburgh and the surrounding areas before writing to various companies and businesses to invite staff to their fair.

Staff from the HM Coastguard, Kilcreggan Garage, Waitrose, Babcock, Aggreko, Helensburgh Toyota, Scottish Water, Police Scotland, Ambulance and Paramedic service, Mayfield Beauty Room, La Barca, Helensburgh Subaru, James D Bisland, Nicolson Hughes Sails and the Kilcreggan Butchers all accepted the invitation and attended the school.

Primary six and seven pupils put their catering and entertainment skills into practice to prepare and serve a lunch of soup and sandwiches for their guests before the fair began, with the help and support of catering manager Mrs Susan Jamieson.

All the children from primary one to seven then interviewed their guests about the jobs they do and the skills their jobs require.

Younger pupils recorded their interviews on i-pads and microphones while the older pupils used their note taking skills.

Head teacher Frances Bretman was delighted with how it all went. She said: “The afternoon was a huge success with businesses contributing fabulous partnership working and making the learning very real for pupils. Links with local companies are now set to continue with further links to the world of work being offered.
