THE Helensburgh branch of Save the Children recently held an evening of musical entertainment in the Gathering Space of Helensburgh Parish Church, the perfect venue for such an event.
The audience of around 60 people were treated to a wonderful variety of music including operatic arias, American folk songs, a Gilbert and Sullivan piece and ending with the very romantic duet, Just the Way You Look Tonigh
These were performed by baritone Jonathan Kennedy and mezzo-soprano Beth Taylor, who were accompanied by Michel Gajzler on the keyboard.
Both Jonathan and Beth had been soloists in the Oratorio’s Christmas production of Peace on Earth last November and have performed for Save the Children on several previous occasions.
The evening raised £957.20 for Save the Children. The local committee would like to thank all those who supported the event so generously.
The committee’s next fundraising venture is an afternoon tea on Thursday, June 22 at Helensburgh Sailing Club, when the former curator of the orchid collection at the Botanic Gardens, David Menzies, will give a talk.
