HERMITAGE Park has been temporarily closed to the public on health and safety grounds.

The Friends of Hermitage Park say that the closure is likely to last for between four and six weeks.

Only the children's play area in the park will remain open to the public, with signposted access available from Victoria Road only.

The closure was announced on Friday, with Argyll and Bute Council, which owns the ground, stating that public access to the rest of the park would be closed off “for as short a period as possible”.

The Friends of Hermitage Park said in a post on the 'Helensburgh Hermitage Park' Facebook page: “The health and safety inspector has advised there is too much work going on just now with the pavilion and shelter demolition etc. We had hoped to avoid closing the park at all but better safe than sorry."
