PARISHONERS young and not so young dug deep to help raise funds for Cardross Parish Church.

Admission was only a £1 for adults and free for children and on the day there was the usual array of stalls selling Bric-a-brac, books, jewellery and lots of bargains.

Tasty treats included home baking and hot dogs.

In addition there was home made soup with bread and butter, which proved as popular as ever.

And overall a great day was had by all.

A church spokesperson said: "A big thank you to all who came to the Spring Fair and an even bigger thanks to all those who helped, donated or ran stalls.

"We are delighted to say that thanks to your hard work and generosity an amazing £2200.74 was raised and is a great, and much welcome boost to Church funds."

But there was another reason to celebrate at the church too.

There was a very special anniversary for three of the church Elders following the Sunday service.

Archie McIntyre, Nancy Gray and Alistair MacPherson were ordained as Elders of Cardross Parish Church 40 years ago this month.

And to mark the occasion the church members enjoyed a special anniversary cake along with tea and coffee, after the Sunday worship.

It's understood that a proper celebration event will be held soon to mark their service, and other long-serving Elders, later this year.
