CARDROSS Primary School's annual gala day will this year have a Wild West theme – and a very special guest too.

This year's gala day takes place from 12-4pm on Saturday, June 10, and will be opened by TV presenter and former Hermitage Academy pupil Hazel Irvine, who moved to Cardross with her family when she was a child and whose parents still live in the village.

The event will feature line dancers, gunslingers, a barbecue, bouncy castle and other inflatable fun, a tug of war, a dog show, ice creams, home baking, a fancy dress parade, face painting, cowboy boot tossing, and craft and other stalls.

A member of the BBC's TV sports presenting team since 1990, Irvine announced earlier this year that she would stand down from the corporation's golf coverage following the US Masters in April, though she will continue to front its snooker coverage as well as appearing on screen at other major events.
