A MAN who battered his mum blamed Buckfast and drugs.
On Thursday at Alloa Sheriff Court, Scott Mitchell pleaded guilty to assaulting his 65-year-old mother at an address in Tillicoultry's Dorothy Terrace on April 25 this year.
The 37-year-old admitted pushing her on the body, causing her to fall on the couch. He then repeatedly punched her on the head and struck her body with his own, causing injury.
Defending, Krista Johnston claimed that her client could not remember "what he did or took".
She stated that the accused, of Tilly's Cairnton Place, attributed his actions to "Buckfast in the first place and drugs in the second place".
He was also said to suffer from a serious head injury.
Sheriff David Mackie stated that a custodial sentence would not address the accused's issues.
Appearing from custody after serving the equivalent of a 44-day sentence, Mitchell was thereafter sentenced to a Community Payback Order with supervision for two years and a conduct requirement to attend drug and alcohol counselling.
